ASI held with yaba pills sent to jail

A Rangpur court yesterday sent an assistant sub-inspector to jail in a narcotics case.

Earlier in the day, Md Moniruzzaman, 31, of Kurigram Police Lines, who was suspended five months ago, was arrested with 3,198 yaba pills and a bottle of Phensedyl from his house in Rangpur city.

Officials of Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in Rangpur said on information a team of officials of DC and the DNC offices, led by Executive Magistrate Rahat Bin Kutub, raided Moniruzzaman's house around 10:30am and held him with 3,198 yaba tablets and a bottle of Phensedyl.

Besides the drugs, the team also seized Tk 7,800, prize bonds worth Tk 900, five chequebooks and four mobile sets from his possession.

Moniruzzaman was later taken to the office of Rangpur deputy commissionerwhere he was interrogated, said officials.

A case was filed with Rangpur Kotwali Police Station under the narcotics control act.

Ayub Ali, reserve inspector of Kurigram Police Lines, said Moniruzzaman was suspended five months ago as he violated the disciplinary code when he was attached to the police lines.
