Accused confesses raping, killing schoolboy

An eight-year-old boy, whose body was recovered from Noakhali’s Begumganj upazila on August 25, was gang raped by four young men before he was murdered, police said yesterday.

The victim was identified as Imran Haque, a first grader of Chhoyani Government Primary School.

The narrative of the murder came to light after police on Sunday arrested one of the accused, Washim Akram, who gave his confessional statement before a magistrate court yesterday, police said.

Alamgir Hossain, superintendent of police in Noakhali, at a press conference said that on August 22 the four young men lured Imran with treats and took him to a room of an abandoned tin-shed house near Chhoyani bazar where they raped him.

During primary interrogation, Washim confessed that he and his three friends raped the boy. When Imran fell sick, they took him to a doctor who advised them to admit the boy to a hospital.

The accused took the boy back to the tin-shed to kill him instead. They then left the body in a basket, SP Alamgir said.

The criminals strangled the child to death with a rope, he added.

On August 25, police recovered his decomposing body from the spot and the boy’s father filed a murder case with Begumganj Police Station the next day.
