6th grader raped in Dinajpur

2 guards held; woman gang-raped in Hatia

A sixth grader was allegedly raped by two guards of a litchi orchard in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur yesterday after she went there to collect fallen litchis.

Meanwhile, police arrested three men in Noakhali’s Hatia upazila yesterday over the alleged gang rape of a woman the night before.

In Birganj of Dinajpur, local people caught the two suspected rapists -- Khalil Mia, 33, of Proshadpara village, and Ranjit Devnath, 30, of Shulshuli village.

The 13-year-old schoolgirl lives with her grandmother at a nearby house as her parents work at garment factories in Dhaka, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.

Kutub Uddin, chairman of Shatagram Union Parishad in Birganj upazila, said that after the rape, the two men intimidated the girl, but she told everything to her grandmother. “When the villagers learned it, they caught the guards and beat them.”

Hearing the incident, a police team led by Sub-inspector Amzad Ali Mondal went to the village, arrested the guards, and took them to Birganj Police Station.

The girl was taken to Birganj Upazila Health Complex with injuries, said the chairman.

NOAKHALI RAPE

On Thursday night, three men gang raped the mother of three at her father’s house in Hatia, said Officer-in-Charge of Hatia Police Station Abul Khayer. Police arrested the accused -- Sahab Uddin, Jamal Majhi, and Alamgir -- after a case was filed.

The victim was admitted to Noakhali General Hospital for treatment and medical examination, reports our Noakhali correspondent.
