Four teenagers were gang-raped in two incidents in the capital’s Madhya Badda and Kadamtali areas on Saturday night.

The victims were sent to One-stop Crisis Centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday night for forensic tests after two cases were filed in this regard.

Lodging one of the cases with Badda Police Station, the uncle of a victim said two girls, aged about 13, were gang-raped by three youths in Madhya Badda.

Police detained a youth for interrogation.

Parvez Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station, said the victims went to DIT project area on Saturday evening to meet the youth. They got lost on their way home at night.

At one stage, three youths offered help to the girls to take them home safely. The youths took the girls to a secluded area and raped them, the OC said.

Meanwhile, police on Sunday night arrested three people in connection with gang-raping two other girls in the city’s Kadamtali area.

The arrestees are Sohel Bapari, 38, Rana Bapari, 32, and Aktar Ali, 38.

Jamal Uddin Meer, OC of Kadamtali Police Station, said three girls, who were friends, were staying at a tin-roofed house in Kadamtali on Saturday night. The three men entered the house and raped two of the girls.

The following day, police picked up the trio after the owner of the house filed the case, he said.

Speaking to The Daily Star, mother of one of the victims said her daughter left home on Saturday afternoon saying that she would go to her maternal grandmother’s house nearby.

“We don’t know why she went to her friend’s house that night…. We want exemplary punishment of the rapists,” she said.

SCHOOLGIRL RAPED

In Tangail, a 13-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly raped by a man near her village home in Ghatail upazila on Sunday, reports our district correspondent.

Yesterday, the victim’s father filed a case with Ghatail Police Station, accusing one Rofiz Uddin Opu, 45.

According to the case statement, the girl, a class-IV student, went to an orchard near her home around noon on Sunday to collect dry leaves.

Seeing her alone, Rofiz Uddin of the same village strapped her mouth with a piece of cloth and raped her. He threatened the schoolgirl with death if she disclosed the matter to anyone.

After returning home, the girl informed her mother about the incident.

Amir Khasru, assistant superintendent of police (Gopalpur circle) in Tangail, said forensic tests were carried out on the girl at Tangail General Hospital yesterday.A local court also recorded the statement of the victim, the ASP added.
