3 held for gang-raping woman

Police yesterday arrested three people on charges of gang raping a woman in Narayanganj Sadar upazila.

The arrestees are Nurul Islam, 65, Ainul Mia, 22, and Raj Ballav, 63, said Aslam Hosen, officer-in-charge of Fatulla Model Police Station.

The trio were arrested during raids -- between Friday night and yesterday morning -- conducted in Fatulla area, he said.

The incident took place on Thursday when the woman was looking for her husband, who had left home two days earlier following a fight, the OC added.

After she reached Muslimnagar area, the three men forcefully took her to an abandoned place and raped her.

They told her they would kill her if she told anyone about the rape and then fled the area.

The woman filed a case in this connection with Fatulla Police Station on Friday night, after which was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for tests.
