2 sent to jail, one held over rape

Two men were sent to jail in Thakurgaon and Cumilla and another was arrested in Jashore yesterday on charges of rape and attempt to rape.

The accused are Rony, 21, Badiul Alam Munshi, 52, and Babu Sardar, 48, said police.

A Thakurgaon court yesterday sent Rony to jail for allegedly raping an 11-year-old physically challenged girl in Baliadangi upazila on Monday.

Khairuzzman, sub-inspector of Baliadangi Police Station, said locals caught Rony and handed him over to police. Later, produced before the court, he was sent to jail.

In Cumilla, Badiul, a local Madrasha teacher, was sent to jail for allegedly raping a speech impaired and mentally challenged girl.

The victim's family alleged that he committed the crime while the girl was staying alone at her home.

Jahirul Anwar, officer-in-charge of Debidwer Police Station, said the victim's mother filed a case against Badiul on the same day.

Police arrested Badiul yesterday morning and sent him to jail through court, he added.

In Jashore, Babu, general secretary of Sramik Leage Benapole East unit, was arrested for attempting to rape a housewife in Benapole municipality area.

Mamun Khan, officer-in-charge of Benapole Port Police Station, said they arrested Babu upon receiving complaint from the victim's husband.

Meanwhile, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) rescued a fourth-grade student yesterday after she was kidnapped and raped for 25 days.

PBI also arrested two -- Mithun Sawdagar, 30, and his sister Shahina, 32 -- in connection with a case that the victim's mother filed, said Abul Kalam Azad, superintendent of PBI in Rajshahi.
