2 more cases filed against Nur under DSA

Two more cases have been filed against former Ducsu VP Nurul Haque Nur for "hurting religious sentiments" of Awami League activists and supporters and defaming the party.

One Elias Hossain lodged the case with Paltan Police Station Sunday night under the Digital Security Act for Nur's comments during a Facebook live session on April 14, Abu Bakar Siddique, officer-in-charge of the police station, told The Daily Star.

"We are investigating the case," he said.

In the case statement, Elias said Nur hurt the religious sentiments of AL activists and supporters by calling them "fake Muslims".

The link of the Facebook live session was shared by a large number of Facebook users. Many posted anti-state and government comments with the link, Elias, who claimed himself to be a supporter of AL, mentioned in the case statement.

The complainant claimed that they tried to create anarchy and destroy communal harmony.

Nur was also sued in a case filed in Sylhet yesterday.

Kishor Jahan Sourav filed the case with Kotwali Police Station in the afternoon under the DSA for Nur's comments during the Facebook live session, SM Abu Farhad, officer-in-charge of the police station, told The Daily Star.

The plaintiff is a former member of the Sylhet city unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League.

On Sunday evening, Ashraful Islam Shojib, member of Jubo League central committee, lodged a case against Nur under the DSA with Shahbagh Police Station over the same issue.
