19 youths return after serving jail term in India

Some 19 Bangladeshi youths have returned home through Benapole check post after serving two years of jail in India.

Indian police handed them over to Benapole immigration police in Bangladesh around 10:30pm on Thursday.

The returnees hail from Narail, Dinajpur and Khulna, said police.

Mohsin Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of the immigration police, said the youths were arrested about two and a half years ago at Tamil Nadu for illegally entering into the country.

An Indain court sentenced them to two years in jail. After the completion of the term, they were kept at Lalua shelter home for several months.

Most of the youths were victim to the false promises made by human traffickers, said the OC.

Indian authorities returned them following repeated requests of Bangladesh home ministry, he added.
