18 more die, 1,474 test positive

Eighteen more people died from Covid-19 in past 24 hours till 8:00am yesterday, said a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services.

With this, the total number of deaths caused by the highly transmissible virus rose to 6,067. This was 1.44 percent of all confirmed cases, according to the release.

In the same 24 hours, 1,474 more people tested positive for the virus, taking the number of confirmed cases to 4,20,238.

As another 1,577 patients were released from hospitals following their recovery during the time, the number of recoveries rose to 3,38,145.

This was over 80 percent of all cases, added the release.

Against a total of 12,760 new tests in 114 authorised laboratories across the country, the positivity rate was 11.55 percent, while the overall positivity rate was 17.20 percent.

Of the 18 deceased, 14 were males and four females. Except one, 17 others died in hospitals, said DGHS.

One was aged between 21 and 30, one between 41 and 50, five were aged between 51 and 60, while the rest were above 60 years old.

One each was from Sylhet and Barishal divisions, two each were from Rangpur and Khulna divisions, three from Chattogram division and nine from Dhaka division.

Of all the Covid-19 deceased, over 52 percent were from Dhaka division.

As of yesterday noon, 2,543 Covid-19 patients were undergoing treatment in general beds and 271 in ICUs in the designated hospitals, added the release.
