14 dummy candidates in N'ganj-1

Fourteen grassroots leaders and activists of Rupganj upazila Awami League have collected the nomination forms to act as dummy candidates for the incumbent lawmaker of Narayanganj-1 constituency Golam Dastagir Gazi.

They revealed the information yesterday at a press conference in Tarab municipality Awami League office at the upazila in Narayanganj.

A group of conspirators were planning to spread false allegations against Gazi in the Awami League Parliamentary Board, said Tofazzal Hossain Mollah, president of the unit.

"We did not buy the nomination forms to contest in the polls. Rather, we wanted to raise our voices for Gazi," Tofazzal added.

The ruling Awami League sold around 4,023 nomination forms in four days between November 9 to November 12.

The party chief Sheikh Hasina will address the nomination seekers at the Gono Bhaban today to give directives for the polls.
