‘Inspired by TV serial’, boys kill classmate after abduction in Bangladesh

Body of 11-year-old madrasa boy found in septic tank; 3 teenagers arrested

Three teenage students of a madrasa abducted and killed their classmate, and for this gruesome act, they claimed, they drew inspiration from a TV serial.

The body of the victim, 11-year-old Tanvir Alam, was recovered from a septic tank in Natore town's Alaipur area yesterday morning.

A Rab-5 team recovered the body following up information given by the three, arrested earlier from Hefzakhana Ashraful Ulum Hafezia Madrasa.

The arrestees -- Hossain, 15, Bayzid Hasan, 14, and Mohammad Naeem, 15 -- said they were inspired by an Indian TV serial to commit the crime, said Lt Col Mahabubul Alam, commanding officer of Rab-5.

They said they abducted Tanvir and then slit his throat on August 25.

On August 28, three days after Tanvir went missing, his father Saiful Islam informed the elite force that some unidentified criminals had abducted his son and demanded a Tk 5 lakh ransom.

The Rab got clues about the three by tracking the phone of one of them.

The arrestees said they abducted Tanvir and then slit his throat on August 25, said Lt Col Mahbubul, adding that they demanded ransom after the murder from Tanvir's family over the phone.

"I demand exemplary punishment to the criminals," said the victim's father.
