MP's son found dead at NAM flat in city

Police suspect suicide

Aneek Aziz, son of Satkhira-1 lawmaker Mustafa Lutfullah, was found dead at their NAM flat on Manik Mia Avenue in the capital yesterday morning.

Aneek, 26, was found hanging inside room-604 of building-5, Gopal Ganesh Biswas, officer-in-charge of Sher-e Bangla Nagar police, told The Daily Star.

Acting on information, police recovered the body around 8:00am and sent it to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC added.

The body was found tied to a cable and hanging from a bedroom fan, he said, adding that they suspect it was a case of suicide.

Aneek was an MSc student at Daffodil International University in Dhaka. His father Mustafa Lutfullah is a leader of the Workers Party of Bangladesh.

Prof AM Selim Reza, head of the forensic medicine department of Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, conducted the autopsy.

Talking to media, Prof Reza echoed the version of police that Aneek had committed suicide. There were no signs of injury on his body, he added.

Mofizul Haque Jahangir, personal secretary of the lawmaker, told reporters that he along with MP Lutfullah and his wife Nasreen Khan Lipy returned from Satkhira around 6:00am yesterday, while Aneek and his sister Adity Adrita Sristi were staying at the flat.

In the morning, when they knocked on Aneek's door, he did not respond.

The room was unlocked with a spare key, Jahangir added.

The OC added they were investigating the incident. “We are checking Aneek's laptop and phone for any clue.”

After the autopsy, the body was taken to Satkhira for burial.

The family did not comment as to why he killed himself, but family sources said a relationship could be the reason.
