The victim killed a man when caught during attempted rape
A mob beat a vegetable hawker dead in Chuadanga, minutes after he stabbed a villager to death and injured two others yesterday morning, police said.
Hawker Akbar Ali, 26, stabbed Hasanuzzaman, 25, multiple times when the latter caught him allegedly trying to rape a sixth grader at her home in Amirpur area.
Hearing the commotion, locals rushed there and beat Akbar up. Both men died at the scene, said Fakrul Alam Khan, officer-in-charge of Chuadanga Police Station.
The girl and her grandfather were also stabbed by Akbar, the OC said, quoting locals.
Akbar, who was from Damurhuda upazila of the district, often visited the girl’s house to sell vegetables.
When he entered the house around 7:30am yesterday, he saw the girl sleeping on a bed in an apparently empty house and tried to rape her, the officer said.
As the girl woke up and screamed, her grandfather, who was sleeping in the next room, and Hasanuzzaman, who lived next door, rushed there and caught Akbar.
Akbar had a kitchen knife with him and began to stab them.
The neighbours reached there within moments and began to beat Akbar up.
The entire incident was over in minutes, the OC said.
The girl and her grandfather, who was seriously injured, were taken to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.
