Man stabbed to death

A man was stabbed to death by unidentified criminals at Siddikbazar in old Dhaka yesterday when he was going to Fulbaria Bus Station by a rickshaw from his Nawabpur house.

The dead is Sayeed Hossain, 45. He was supposed to join a clothes shop yesterday as a salesperson at Mascot Plaza in Uttara.

When the rickshaw reached Siddikbazar around 7:00am, two youths halted his rickshaw and tried to take away his bag. At one stage, they stabbed Sayeed and fled the scene, said Tofail, the rickshaw-puller.

Critically injured Sayeed was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Victim's family members said muggers might have killed Sayeed.

However, Sheikh Md Nasir Uddin, inspector of Bangshal Police Station, said no valuables were snatched away from Sayeed. “We are investigating whether it was an incident of mugging."
