Let us work together for sustainable democracy in Bangladesh

Khaleda tells PM

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday called upon Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to abandon the path of hatred and to work with her together like they did in the past to build a sustainable democratic system.

The former prime minister in a statement blasted the government for the arrest of Joypurhat district BNP President Mojahar Ali Pradhan immediately after he was freed from jail on bail.

Describing the arrest as a perfect example of basic human rights violation by  the government, she urged it to refrain from such “unlawful” activities.

“I'm worried that the jealousy-based politics might nail the country's dying democracy into a coffin. It seems that the government is very active to do so,” the BNP chief said.

“We've confidence in people's verdict. What are you [government] afraid of?” she questioned.

Khaleda added: “I want to remind the Awami League president that we didn't liberate the country for this reason. The government's policy of running the country is simply a betrayal of the spirit of Liberation War.”
