Language hero Joynal Abedin passes away

Language movement hero and freedoom fighter Joynal Abedin Khan passed away early yesterday at a hospital in Savar on the outskirts of the capital.

He was 80. Joynal had been suffering from old-age complications.

His namaz-e-janaza was held yesterday in Savar upazila at 4:00pm and he  was laid to rest with honors at Talbag graveyard around 4:30.

Born on 1932, in the Mohokuma of Pabna, Khan joined language movement when still a student of Pabna  Edward College and became one of the prominent leaders of the movement. He completed his MA degree in Law and International Relations from Dhaka University.

Khan was jailed several times for his political activities. He later took part in the Liberation War in 1971.

He served as worked as a metropolitan magistrate of the government. After his retirement in 1992 he worked in various social organisations including Transparency International, Bangladesh and  Sanak.
