'Gunfight' with Cops: 2 'criminals' killed in Narayanganj

Two suspected criminals were killed in a “gunfight” with the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Narayanganj's Fatullah area yesterday.

The dead are Moktar Hossain alias “Killer Moktar”, 42, and his accomplice Manik alias “Killer Manik”, 40. Moktar was accused in several cases, including one for murder, police said.

Acting on a tip-off that some criminals were hiding near Pagla's Sahibazar, a DB team raided the place around 6:30pm, said Kamaluddin, officer-in-charge of Fatullah Model Police Station.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on them. The DB men fired back in retaliation, triggering the “gunfight”.

Two of the attackers were killed on the spot. One of the DB men was also injured, he added.

Abdul Aziz, 28, an assistant sub-inspector of DB, was shot in his right leg and was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Sub-inspector Bacchu Mia, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost.
