Faridpur baby on life support

The newborn girl, who was saved minutes before being buried alive at a Faridpur graveyard, has been placed on life support in a hospital in the capital.

Earlier, on Saturday around 7:30pm, she was flown to Square Hospitals on a helicopter, chartered with funds received from an anonymous donor in Hungary. Her father, grandfather, and a nurse accompanied her on the flight.

The pre-mature baby, Galiba Hayat, is now undergoing treatment at Neonatal Incentive Care Unit (NICU) of the hospital under Dr Aftab Yusuf Raj.

It is a miracle that the baby, bleeding from different parts of her body and having several infections, is still alive, said Dr Raj.

Galiba's father Nazmul Huda Mithu told The Daily Star, “Allah has brought my daughter back from the jaws of death. Insha Allah, she will survive. I request all to pray for her. I hope to take her back home well”.

Complaining against the doctor who announced her dead, he said, “Why was not she kept under observation”.

He claimed that he thought the baby would not have infection if she was kept under observation after her birth.

Solaiman Shukhon, head of marketing at Aamra Networks Ltd, told The Daily Star that he arranged for the helicopter on behalf of a friend in Hungary, who does not want to disclose his name.

Shukhon said the baby was admitted to the hospital. “We will arrange for funds for the baby's treatment if needed.”
