Attack on Italian Priest

Court accepts charge-sheet

A Dinajpur court yesterday accepted the charge-sheet against seven “militants” in connection with the attempt on the life of an Italian priest in the district town last year.

Passing the order, the court also issued warrants for the arrest of three accused and acquitted three others, including district Jamaat Secretary Abu Ala Mahbubur Rahman Bhutto.

Those faced the arrest warrants are Rajibul Islam Badal alias Badhan, 25, Abdul Khaleque alias Khaled alias Mama, 28, and Mohammad Rajib alias Sujon alias Jakir, 25.

The four other charge-sheeted accused are Shariful Islam alias Denis alias Sifat alias Zid, 28, Md Shakhawat Hossain alias Shafik Master, 26, Sarwar Hossain alias Sabu alias Mizan, 33, and Abdur Rahman alias Pintu alias Badsha, 22.

The court ordered police to arrest the three fugitive accused by August 2, said court inspector Abu Syed Sarker.

Those acquitted include Rajibur Rahman alias Palash and Asaduzzaman Milon alias Shimul.

On November 18, 2015, Italian citizen Piero Arolari, 57, a pastor of Dinajpur church, received injuries in a gun attack by unknown assailants in the district town.

Later, a case was filed with Kotwali Police Station.
