CID asked to submit Tonu's DNA report

Writ seeks speedy submission of autopsy reports

A Comilla court on Sunday ordered the CID to provide the medical board of Comilla Medical College Hospital with the report on the DNA samples of Sohagi Jahan Tonu.

On 17 May, the Criminal Investigation Department disclosed that they found evidence of rape in the DNA samples of Tonu's clothes and teeth.

Earlier, doctors at the forensic medicine department of the hospital during the first autopsy didn't find any sign of rape on the college student's body.

Another Comilla court on March 28 had ordered exhumation of her body from the grave for a fresh autopsy.

Tonu, a student of history at Comilla Victoria College, was found dead in a bush inside Comilla Cantonment on 20 March.

Meanwhile, a writ petition was filed with the High Court yesterday, seeking its directives on the authorities concerned to immediately submit the two autopsy reports of Tonu to the court.

Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) filed the petition, asking for the HC directive on the CID to submit a progress report on its probe.

The HC bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir is likely to hear the writ this week.

Talking to reporters, ASK lawyer ZI Khan Panna said as the investigation officer of the case cannot submit the probe report to the court without any autopsy report, the writ was filed seeking HC directives for placing the autopsy reports.

The court's directive was also sought for a statement of the Cantonment Board on the issue, he added.
