Bir Protik Kakon Bibi no more

Bir Protik Nurjahan Kakon Bibi, a valiant indigenous freedom fighter, breathed her last at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital last night. She passed away due to old age complications.

She had been undergoing treatment for pneumonia at the hospital since March 19, said Brig Gen Mahbubul Haque.

Kakon Bibi was a secret agent and directly fought the Pakistani occupation army during the Liberation War. At the time, she was arrested and brutally tortured by the occupation army.

Born to a Khasi family at Sunamganj border in the early 60s, Kakon got married and later changed her name to Nurjahan Begum from Kakon Hennyata.

However, she was better known as Kakon Bibi.

Kakon Bibi lived with her family in Sunamganj's Doarabazar upazila where the government built a house for her.
