Accused 'admits' killing Uttara schoolboy

An accused in the sensational murder case of ninth-grader Adnan Kabir yesterday "confessed" to a Dhaka court that he along with some 18-20 members of Disco Group and some others hired by them killed the teenager.

They beat and stabbed Adnan to death to take revenge on him for attacking a member of Disco Group earlier, court sources told The Daily Star quoting accused Mehrab Hossain as saying.

Metropolitan Magistrate Amirul Haider Chowdhury recorded Mehrab's statement in the afternoon before sending the 15-year-old to jail.

Shahin Miah, sub-inspector of Uttara West Police Station, said they have so far arrested three suspects, including Mehrab, in connection with the murder.

Adnan, a student of Uttara's Trust School and College and a member of local Nine Star Group, came under attack in Uttara on January 6 allegedly from members of Disco Group.

Critically injured Adnan was rushed to a local hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Ali Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge of Uttara West Police Station, said some teenagers used to form gangs to establish supremacy in the area.

“We earlier arrested some members of such gangs following intra-gang feuds. Later, they were sent to a teenage correction centre. They eventually secured bail from courts,” the OC added.
