7.3 lakh yaba tablets seized

One Myanmarese among 7 held

Rab seized 7.3 lakh yaba tablets and arrested seven people, including a Myanmarese, in this connection from Cox's Bazar Sadar upazila early yesterday.

They are Abdur Rahim, Ashek Ullah, Shamsul Alam, Mohammad Hasan, Mohammad Rashid, Mohammad Yunus and Myanmarese Mohammad Jubayer.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-7 detained six people along with the yaba pills from a trawler in the Bay of Bengal around 12:30am, said Lt Col Nixthya Uddin Ahmed, spokesperson of Rab-7.

The value of the tablets was estimated at over Tk 9 crore, the Rab official added.

Based on information from the arrestees, the Rab members then nabbed Rashid from Kalatali village in Cox's Bazar town. He is the younger brother of Mohammad Mofiz, who is absconding and the main accused of another yaba smuggling case.

The arrestees were handed over to Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station.

A case was filed.
