16 sued in Bogra over schoolboy murder

Sixteen people, including cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim's father Mahbub Hamid Tara and uncle Mejbaul Hamid, have been accused of killing schoolboy Mashuk Ferdous.

Victim's father Emdadul Haque Emdad, a Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) central committee member, lodged the case with Bogra Sadar Police Station yesterday, three days after the killing of Mashuk.

Mashuk, 16, was a class-IX student of SOS Hermann Gmeiner School and College in Bogra town.

In the case statement, Mashuk's father Emdadul said there had been a conflict between the families of his and Mejbaul, who is the councillor of ward-17 of Bogra municipality, over the formation of the managing committee of local Matidali High School.

Mushfiqur's father is the president of the committee.

Emdadul said the accused planned to kill his son. He also demanded their immediate arrest and exemplary punishment.

On Saturday night, some unidentified criminals beat Mashuk to death near his house in Matidali area.

Talking to The Daily Star, Mushfiqur's father sought a neutral investigation into the case and demanded punishment of the real killers.

He said he was ready to face any punishment if his involvement in the murder could be proved.

Contacted, Aslam Hossain, inspector (investigation) of Bogra Sadar Police Station, said they took the case seriously and that the motive behind the murder was clear to them, but refused to give details in this regard.

Meanwhile, students and locals of Matidali formed a human chain in front of Matidali High School yesterday, protesting the killing.
