10-year-old killed in gun attack

A 10-year-old madrasa student was killed in a gun attack by unidentified miscreants at Khabir Miar Bazar in Hatiya upazila of Noakhali on Sunday.

The victim, Miskatur Rahman Nirob, was a student of class-VI at Rahmania Madrasa in the area.

His father Miraj Uddin sustained gun injuries in the incident. Both are residents of Bejugalia in the municipal area. Nirob's mother Shefali Begum, 28, and two other men -- Rashedul Haque Nantu and Shahadat Hossain -- were also injured in the attack.

The injured were rushed to Hatiya Upazila Health complex for treatment from where Nirob and Miraj were shifted to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital. Nirob died at the hospital.

Locals said a gang of unidentified armed miscreants attacked Khabir Miar Bazar in Hatiya municipal area around 9:00am.

Rashedul Haque Nantu and Shahadat Hossain were injured in the attack. Chased by the criminals Nirob's father Miraj Uddin took shelter in his own house at nearby Bejugalia village.

As the miscreants opened indiscriminate gun shots on him, Nirob and his mother came forward to save Miraj Uddin and subsequently Nirob and Miraj Uddin sustained bullet injuries.

Hatiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Kamruzzaman Shikder said Nirob's body has been kept in Noakhali General Hospital for autopsy.  Miraj Uddin is being given treatment at the Hospital.
