Jatiya Party (JP) presidium member Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu has been appointed as the secretary general of the main opposition party in parliament.

He will replace ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader who got the appointment of the JP secretary general 12 years back.

“Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad has appointed Ziauddin Bablu as secretary general of the party after removing Hawlader from the post on the basis of his authority provided by the party constitution,” Ershad’s Political Secretary Sunil Shuvo Roy told The Daily Star this evening.

The JP chief’s political secretary could not provide any reason for the sudden reshuffle in the party.

The Jatiya Party insiders, however, said it was the outcome of instability among the party.

They said Bablu, who has close relation with Raushan Ershad, a senior presidium member of the party and leader of the opposition in parliament, might have used the influence of Raushan to get the post.

The JP leaders added that the Anti-Corruption Commission has recently decided to investigate allegations of amassing illegal wealth by Ruhul Amin Hawlader which might be other reason for removing him from the post.
