The defence counsel will be appealing against the August 21, 2004 verdict that has sentenced 19 people to death and others in imprisonment in two cases.

"We are aggrieved and we will appeal to the higher court," Advocate SM Shahjahan, a defence counsel for Lutfozzaman Babar and Abdus Salam Pintu, said.

A total of 19 people including state minister Lutfozzaman Babar and former deputy minister Abdus Salam Pintu have been sentenced to death over the blast cases. BNP leader Tarique Rahman was awarded life term imprisonment.

The prosecution team, on the other hand, has said they will be seeking for higher punishment for Tarique Rahman and others convicted in the cases.
