A forester who was critically injured in an attack by land grabbers last week, died this morning in Chattogram.

Sultanul Ahmed Chowdhury, range officer of Maheshkhali range under Chattogram Coastal Forest Division, confirmed the news to The Daily Star.

Md Yousuf Uddin, 30, a forester at Maheshkhali range, was undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), the range officer said.

On July 30, a team of forest officials rushed to Koroibunia area of Keruntholi beat under Maheshkhali, based on a tip-off that miscreants were damaging a plantation in order to make space for growing betel leaf.

The team came under attack from the miscreants once they reached the spot.

Three members of the team were injured among whom Yousuf's condition was critical, said Sultanul Ahmed Chowdhury.

"Yousuf fought for his life for the last five days, but died this morning," he added.
