Attack on minorities in Natore, 1 killed

Unidentified miscreants stabbed dead a man of Hindu community and injured his wife in Baraigram upazila of Natore early today.

Deceased Haripodo Mandal, 55, was a rich farmer of Bagdob village in the upazila while his widow is Bishakha Rani, 48, reports our Natore correspondent.

The spouse came under attack as they came out from their room hearing the scream of their adopted daughter, Mita Rani, around 12:30am, said Mahfuz Zaman Khan, assistant superintendent of police (Baraigram circle).

Asked whether it was a part of post-polls attacks on minority, Khan said it can be said only after investigation.

Mandal might have been killed following a family or land dispute, the police official added.

Police said miscreants entered the room of 18-year old Mita, also a niece of Mandal.

When Mita started to scream, his foster parents came out from their houses and the criminals swooped on them and stabbed them indiscriminately.

Mandal adopted Mita as they had no child.

The injured were first rushed to Baraigram Upazila Health Complex where doctors referred them to RMCH.

Injured Bishakha is now undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.

Mandal died on way to the hospital around 1:30am.
