ATM Shamsuzzaman’s son gets life for killing brother

A Dhaka court today sentenced Khalequzzaman Kushal, son of film actor ATM Shamsuzzaman, to life term imprisonment for killing his eldest brother two years back.

Judge Shahed Nuruddin of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 also fined the convict Tk 50,000, in default of which he will have to serve another year in jail.

ATM Kamruzzaman Kabir, 35, a reconditioned car trader, was stabbed to death by Kushal at their Sutrapur house in Dhaka on March 13, 2012 following an altercation over money.

After cross examination of 14 procession witnesses including Shamsuzzaman, the court pronounced the verdict today at a crowded courtroom in presence of Kushal.

Police arrested Kushal, a drug addict who had been suffering from mental illness, from their house on the day of murder.

He was charged with the murder on July 17, 2012 and indicted on November 30 the same year.
