Indian Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu tests positive for Covid-19

India's Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu tested positive for coronavirus today, but is asymptomatic and in good health, his office said.

The vice-president underwent a routine Covid-19 test today morning and tested positive. "He is however, asymptomatic and in good health," Naidu's office said in a twitter post.

Naidu, 71, "has been advised home quarantine and his wife Smt. Usha Naidu has been tested negative and is in self-isolation," the post added.

Naidu, who is also the chairman of the Rajya Sabha, the upper House of the Indian parliament, had recently attended the monsoon session of parliament which was cut short after more than 25 lawmakers tested positive for the virus.

Several Indian politicians across the political spectrum and federal and ministers in states have tested Covid-19 positive.
