February 21 observed at German University

South Asia Institute (SAI) of Heidelberg University in Germany on Thursday observed the International Mother Language Day for the first time in its history.  Students from different countries recited poems in their mother tongue during the ceremony.  The worldwide celebration of the day on February 21 was firstly announced by UNESCO on 17 November 1999 and was formally recognised by the UN General Assembly in 2008.
