Veteran actor Nazmul Huda Bachchu passes away

Prominent television and film actor Nazmul Huda Bachchu passed away at the age of 79 yesterday at 4:14am. After a heart attack, the veteran artiste was rushed to Square Hospital where he breathed his last. 

Born on July 11, 1938 in Magura, Nazmul Huda Bachchu began his career in music, and went on to become a singer and music director. The artiste graduated from Dhaka University in 1958 where he studied Political Science, and found his ground as an actor by directing and acting in small productions at SM Hall. As a student, Bachchu garnered popularity as a singer on the radio. He was a music director for many productions over the years, including “Lalon Fakir'er Natok”, and more. In 1961, he provided vocals for the song “Obhimaan Korona” in the Mustifiz-helmed film “Harano Din”. In the following years, he did playback for a number of films including “Jowar Elo”, “Chanda”, “Phir Milenge Hum Dono”, “Kar Paape”, and more.

He made his first foray into television with the drama series “Chacha Bhatija”, before stepping into the world of film with the Babul Chowdhury helmed “Aakabaaka”. Other notable roles in film include “Jowar Elo”, “Chanda”, “Sareng Bou”, “Gangchil”, “Suurjodighol Bari”, “Srabon Megher Din”, “Behula Lakhinder”, “Runway”, and more. He made his last film appearance in “Oggatonama”, directed by Tauquir Ahmed. His final television role was in the single episode play titled “Shadai Lal Rong”, directed by Tanveer Hossain Probal. The play was aired last year during Victory Day (December 16).

Nazmul Huda Bachchu was laid to rest at the Banani graveyard after his namaz-e-janaza at the Gulshan Azad Mosque. He is survived by three daughters, and his wife.
