'Saturday Afternoon' to compete in MIFF 2019

Farooki's 'Saturday Afternoon (Shonibaar Bikel)', has been selected for the Main Competition category at the 41st Moscow International Film Festival.

Internationally acclaimed director Mostafa Sarwar Farooki's Saturday Afternoon (Shonibaar Bikel), a hostage drama based on a terrorist attack, has been selected for the Main Competition category at the 41st Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF), which will be held from April 18 to 25, 2019. This year, renowned Korean director Kim Kim Ki-duk will serve as the president of the jury for the festival's Main Competition category.

Saturday Afternoon, a Bangladesh-Germany joint production, is the first film in a trilogy helmed by Farooki. It is produced by Abdul Aziz from Jaaz Multimedia and Farooki from Chabial. Anna Katchko of Tandem Productions (Germany) served as the co-producer. Alongside Zahid Hasan and Nusrat Imrose Tisha, the film stars Palestinian actor Eyad Hourani, Indian actor Parambrata Chatterjee along with Iresh Zaker, Mamunur Rashid, Nader Chowdhury, Intekhab Dinar, Gousul Alam Shaon and others from Bangladesh. Aziz Zhambakiyev serves as the cinematographer for the film. He received the Silver Bear for best camerawork for the Kazakh film, Harmony Lessons, at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2013.

Zahid Hasan, Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Gousul Alam Shaon and Parambrata Chatterjee will be attending the closing red carpet event of the festival.
