On the occasion of its 27th founding anniversary celebration, Theatre Aungon, a Jamalpur based theatre platform,  held a two-day theatre festival at Zila Shilpakala Academy auditorium in the district town. The event concluded on Tuesday night.

Based on Moharram phase of Mir Masharraf's "Bishad Sindhu", the play "Karbalar Jari" directed by Reza Arif, director and assistant professor of Natok o Natyatatta department of Jahangirnagar University, was staged at the auditorium on Monday night . Musical choreography "Jago", directed by renowned choreographer Aminul Ashraf, was performed by the actors of Theatre Aungon the following night.

"Karbalar Jari", scripted by Dr. Afsar Ahmad, staged in the narrative dramatic form of traditional Bangla, was akin to folk-drama.

The play that hinges on the tragedy of Imam Hassan and Imam Hossain in the then Karbala and heinous conspiracy of Yazid conjures up the horror of  oppression, especially of women and children in some parts of the globe. The play is significant as an iconic protest against all forms of torture and repression.
