'Gohon Jatra' staged for the 25th time yesterday

Padatik Nattya Sangsad celebrated the 'silver jubilee' show of its monologue, Gohon Jatra on July 5 at Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy yesterday.

Written by Rubayet Ahmed, the hour-long monologue is directed by Sudip Chakroborthy and enacted by Shamsi Ara Syka. The play revolves around the global political dynamics, violence, dangers of intolerance and the universal aspiration for freedom of speech and diverse identity. This monologue concludes with the desire of peace and humanity.

The play is a timely mirror on extremism that negates existing ideologies and indulges in destruction and violence worldwide. The play's protagonist Salma has managed to flee captivity but returns to bury the dead and mourns her dead partner who has been brutally killed by extremists. She is unable to escape the clutches of her oppressors. Through her death she stands up for the good to reign supreme on earth.

The show was first premiered in July 16, 2016.
