Another eventful year on the small screen

Another eventful year of the television media has passed by. Like the previous year, a huge number of plays were made this year. Renowned artistes continued their strong foothold in the media. However, some newcomers also made their mark. In between, the media saw new beginnings of some stars, and witnessed some break-ups too. TV artistes were also seen demonstrating this year with a number of demands. Here is a recap of 2016.

Popular face on the small screen, Nadia, tied the knot once again, and this time to actor Nayeem. Shokh and Niloy also got married this year. On the other hand, noted model-cum-actor Sarika divorced her husband. Sumaiya Shimu also got married this year.

Actor Prosun Azad was banned for one year, following a unanimous decision made by the Directors Guild following altercations and a social media spat with Rokeya Prachi. 

Although Tahsan is the man of music, he has been acting regularly on TV. He remained busy with TV projects, and a telecom operator TVC with Mim was also a hit. 

Mosharraf Karim, Zahid Hasan, Apurbo, Sajal and Arfan Nisho also passed a busy shooting schedule all the year round. Chanchal CHowdhury and Nisho were also seen with packed schedules throughout the calendar. 

Among actresses, Sadia Islam Mou acted in a number of plays in 2016. On-screen couple Noble and Mou worked in the play and TVC after a long time.

Although Afsana Mimi was busy with direction, she appeared in a TV play. Shomi Kaiser also acted in a play. Besides them, Bipasha Hayat passed busy time writing TV scripts. She also did two dramas.  Meanwhile, Asaduzzaman Nur was seen acting in a BTV play after many, many years. 

Besides anchoring a TV programme, Swagata was seen playing role of the heroines in '70s and '80s.

Model-turned actresses Mehzabien, Arpana, Ishana and Urmila were all over the small screen. Mehzabien also took the role of a judge in reality show. Another Lux Superstar, Mamo also passed hectic times.

Popular actress Tisha also remained busy shooting TV plays and cinema. 

Of the younger stars, Sabila Nur, Tawsif and Mishu Sabbir continued to impress with their performances. 

Actor-singer Rahul Ananda and actress Nova narrowly escaped two tragic accidents. 

Near the end of the year, veteran actress Suborna Mustafa came up with an announcement of doing a film named “Gohin Baluchor”. 

Although Mahfuz was not seen active on the screen this year, a number of plays were made under his production house.

Like other years, magazine programme “Ityadi” entertained the audiences this year.

Many interesting events in the media took place all the year. Lux Superstar Faria left for a foreign country for higher studies. Mithila was honoured with Chancellor Gold Celled Award at this year's Brac University convocation. Mosharraf Karim, AKM Hasan and Shamim Zaman jointly started a business, and  yesteryear film star Rozina acted in the play “Bibishab” after five years.

One of the most-hyped TV industry incidents came on November 30, when Federal of Television Professionals Organisation organised a grand rally at the Shaheed Minar premises in the capital to press several demands, including withdrawal of ads from Indian channels. The issue of foreign TV shows broadcast in Bangladeshi channels dubbed in Bangla was also an issue of heated debate, most particularly “Sultan Solaiman “, for which there were demonstrations both in favor of and against its broadcast.
