Yesterday marked renowned Nazrul Sangeet exponent Yasmin Mushtari's birth anniversary. The artiste's family members, including her siblings -- renowned singers Shabnam Mushtari and Parveen Mushtari – surprised her on the auspicious day.

"I am truly amazed to have received sincere wishes, love, affection and care from everyone," said Yasmin Mushtari. "Many of my friends, fans, followers, celebrated singers, composers and music directors wished me on the day. I am overwhelmed, and grateful to them all."

Yasmin Mushtari participated in many virtual live musical programmes during the Covid-19 pandemic. The singer also recorded a monsoonal song for BTV, with outdoor visual shots.

"The young generation artistes of our country are really doing great. We are grateful to Sadya Apa for giving us a fantastic platform through Gems of Nazrul and the singers and executive members of Bangladesh Nazrul Sangeet Shilpi Parishad,  where i am also a member,"  said the artiste, commending the two organisations for doing a great job in promoting the creations of our National Poet.

Born in a family with rich cultural heritage, Yasmin Mushtari grew up in an atmosphere of literature, poetry, music, dance, drama and sports.  Her father, Talim Hussain, was an eminent poet, journalist and the founder of the Nazrul Academy. Her mother, Mafruha Chowdhury, was a journalist and a short story writer. "I am proud of my parents and siblings, who supported all my creative ventures during my childhood. While my husband Mushtaq Ahmad is a businessman, he always inspires me to excel in my musical career," said Mushtari.

Yasmin Mushtari's formal training in music started at the early age of six in the Nazrul Academy, where she was awarded a Gold Medal. She has been performing for the Bangladesh Radio and Television since the age of twelve.  Her performance in Notun Kuri was highly acclaimed. She has received several awards for her outstanding contributions to Nazrul Geeti, including the Citycell Channel i Best Singer Award in Nazrul Sangeet in 2006.

Yasmin Mushtari was attracted to Ustad Mehedi Hasan's Ghazals and rendered his Ghazals, during his visit to Bangladesh in 1986. Ustad Mehedi Hasan ceremoniously adopted her as his Shagird (disciple) and provided her training and guidance.
