A tribute to Mohanayok Bulbul Ahmed on his tenth death anniversary

Eminent actor Bulbul Ahmed breathed his last on this day in 2010. Marking the tenth death anniversary of the National Film Award-winning actor, here are some of his greatest works and memories from his co artistes.

Known for his charm and excellent acting skills, Ahmed was born on September 15, 1941. He had stamped a hallmark with his brilliant performance in the film based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's classic novel, Devdas directed by Chashi Nazrul Islam.  Kobori featured as Parboti opposite him. "He was very good at heart. He proved his acting prowess in Devdas," said Kobori. "I can't explain how kind he was! A true gentleman and a great co artiste," shared Anwara, who played the role of Chandramukhi in the film.

Before starting his career in showbiz, he worked as a banker for ten years. Ahmed started his career in acting through a stage performance in 1965. In 1968, he made his first appearance on television. He was at the peak of fame while doing various roles on television, when he made his debut on the silver screen in 1973 with the film Iye Kore Biye.

The iconic actor was honoured with the National Film Award three times in the Best Actor category for his roles in the films Shimana Periye (1977), Bodhu Biday (1978) and Shesh Uttor (1980). Besides, Ahmed was the producer, director, actor and screenplay writer of Rajlokkhi Srikanta, which won the National Film Award in four categories, including the Best Film.

Some of his other notable films include Mohanayok, Rupali Shoikote, Shimana Periye, Bodhubiday, Ghor Shongshar, Kolmilota, Gangchil, Rajlokkhi Srikanta, Surjokonnya, Jonmo Theke Jolchhi, Bhalo Manush, Ferari Boshonto, Wada, Puroshkar, Shami, Shesh Uttor  and Smriti Tumi Bedona, among others.

Ahmed was celebrated in both television and cinema. After his demise, he was often mentioned as the Mohanayok, for his tremendous contribution in the industry.

He played the role of Shafiq in the BTV classic drama Ei Shob Din Ratri. Abdullah Yusuf Imam was his inspiration in acting. He grabbed attention with another drama, Rupnogor. Some of his extraordinary works on television are Borof Gola Nodi, Shesh Bikeler Meye and Arek Falgun. These fictions were adaptations of Zahir Raihan's works. Ahmed was also appreciated for his role in Idiot.

He was married to actor Daily Ahmed. Together, they have three children, Wasif Ahmed Shubho, Tahsin Farzana Tilottoma and Tazrin Farhana Oindrila, popularly known as Oindrila Ahmed.

The father-daughter duo worked together in a few tele fictions, among which Hoimonti was very popular.
