Prominent film and television actor Aparna Ghosh is celebrating Durga Puja at her hometown, Chattogram, as she does every year.

Aparna likes the vibrant and colourful atmosphere of Chattogram at this time of the year. “There is a competitive spirit amongst the people here during Puja,” she says. “Everyone is determined to put up the most extravagant decorations and arrangements throughout the festive season.”

Aparna stated that she was first familiarised with the celebrations and rituals of Durga Puja at the South Nalapara Puja Mandir, the biggest and most well-known Puja pandal in Chattogram. She enjoys visiting the Dewanji Pukur Puja Mandap, which is located at an open field, once every year. The Puja celebrations held at Jemson Hall in Chattogram have designated areas for men and women, which other venues do not, informed the actor. Every year, Jemson Hall organises a cultural programme during Durga Puja.

“Jamal Khan Kusum Kumari Girls’ High School is also well-known for hosting a grand programme at their field during Puja. I love going there,” says Aparna. “Interestingly, their Puja celebrations are always thematic.” Paanchbari, another venue, brightens up Chattogram with beautiful lighting during Puja.

“The Puja celebrations in Chattogram are spectacular. Every year, I make sure that I visit the well-known mandaps and programmes here,” adds Aparna.
