The Daily Star to host Youth Skills Summit 2020

The Daily Star, in association with SBK Tech Ventures, will launch Youth Skills Summit 2020, a virtual event, marking World Youth Skills Day. Star Youth, 10 Minute School and Youth Opportunities are the youth engagement partners of the summit.

56 speakers from home and abroad will join this event as speakers, panelists and moderators. The line of speakers consists of industry leaders, entrepreneurs and young aspirants representing different fields. The aim of the summit is to create a bridge between the veterans and the youth.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to closures of educational and training institutions, interrupting the skill development opportunities among the youth. It has led to job cuts in some industries, creating fears among the youth regarding their careers. As a result, it is time to enlighten the youth about the job market, during and post the pandemic, to guide them about the skills they need to acquire to be competitive in the job market.

The summit will feature a series of panel discussions where experts will talk about different industries, starting from tech and business to arts and culture.  The experts will guide the young attendees about the career prospects of different skills.

The Daily Star has been consistently working for youth empowerment, through various platforms. As a publisher and thought leader of the nation, they aim to pass on the advocacy of the industry leaders to the young aspirants. Youth Skill Summit 2020 is one such initiative.

The live event will take place on July 15, at the official Facebook page of The Daily Star ( facebook.com/dailystarnews). It will start from 10 AM and end at 11 PM (Bangladeshi time).

World Youth Skills Day is observed by UNESCO-UNEVOC. The aim of the occasion is to recognise the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship, and to highlight the crucial role of skilled youth in addressing current and future global challenges. The official theme for World Youth Skills Day this year is 'Skills for a Resilient Youth'.
