Sylhet enjoys an evening with the maestro of rhythm

The four-time Guinness World Records holder, London based Bangladeshi percussionist Pandit Sudarshan Das’s rhythmic performances enthralled Sylhet’s audience, recently.

He performed in an exclusive programme organised by the division’s Sammilita Natya Parishad, and shared his experiences of four record breaking performances.

The programme, Taal O Loy’er Oporup Oishwarya, was held at Kabi Nazrul Auditorium in the city’s Rikabibazar area on Wednesday evening after two days workshop on tabla on Sunday and Monday.

The percussion maestro set the Guinness World Record in 2016 by playing the tabla for 557 hours and 11 minutes, at a stretch. In 2017, he set the record for playing the dhol for 27 hours. He played 14 hours of drums in 2018. His latest achievement was drumming for 140 hours and 5 minutes in 2019.

Pandit Sudarshan Das’s family hails from Chattogram and is based in London, where he started learning tabla at the age of four.

In the programme, he stated that he wants to break his own records in the future, and set an example for the future generations so that they can bring honour to the country.
