This year, the number of celebrities looking to fight for a seat in the parliament is arguably a lot more than previous years. Below is a special report on some of the contestants.

Rumours were heard during the last few months about 'Dhallywood King' Shakib Khan looking for a nomination this year. However, he let The Daily Star know that he will not be partaking in the elections this year, and will be focusing on his film career for now.

On the other hand, veteran actor Farooque had long been thinking about a prospective campaign, and he finally submitted his nomination form this year for Gazipur-5. “I took the nomination form from Awami League (AL), and I hope I will get nominated this year,” said Farooque.

Renowned actor Sarah Begum Kobori will be looking for a nomination from Awami League in the Dhaka-17 constituency.

Shomi Kaiser, one of television's most endearing faces, will fight for nomination for the Feni-3 constituency on behalf of AL. Interestingly, actor Rokeya Prachy will also be contesting for the same constituency.

It is rumoured that famous actor Sohel Rana will ask for a nomination from Jatiya Party. He is set to compete wherever the party deems fit for him.

Singer Baby Nazneen has long been intending to take part in this year's elections on behalf of BNP. She will compete for the Saidpur-4 constituency. Singer Monir Khan is looking to represent BNP in a constituency in his home town, Jhenaidah. Singer Kanak Chapa will also be looking for a nomination from the same party in a constituency from Sirajganj.

Popular actor Jyotika Jyoti bought her nomination form from Mymensingh-3. “I look forward to a nomination from Awami League. I want to help people from my community,” she said.

Even though Ferdous was rumoured to compete for a nomination this year, he opted out of a prospective seat. Actor Shakil Khan has collected his form from a constituency in his home town, Bagerhat for AL.
