SAF’s new art initiative ‘Footnotes for the Future’ covers different artistic topics

As part of their continued support to work for the country's contemporary artists and architects, Samdani Art Foundation (SAF) has taken several initiatives, including virtual art programmes like 'Art Around the Table' and 'Footnotes for the Future'. Engaging global art personalities, practitioners and audience with contemporary Bangladesh artists, SAF is increasing international exposure for the country's artists during these critical times of the coronavirus pandemic.

The fifth session of 'Footnotes for the Future' was held on July 2 on the online platform Zoom. Deepanjana Klein, Head of the South Asian Art Department at Christie's, a renowned art auction house, elaborated on the management of the auction house and various aspects of the global art auction. Every session is followed by a Q/A, where artists interact with the featured guest. Nadia and Rajeeb Samdani take part in every session.

Ruxmini Reckvana Q Choudhury hosts the regular session that takes place at 10 pm on every Thursday.
'Footnotes for the Future' is a part of their new initiative 'Art Around the Table'. Through their social media channels, they bring together various artists, curators and writers to organise various art projects, workshops and discussion meetings. 'Footnotes for the Future' covers topics such as the artists' own work, the role of artists in social and political contexts, their collective works, and future plans.

Through zoom, SAF invited various Bengali-speaking artists, gallerists, writers and researchers to join the art sessions and discuss different topics. Creators from around the global joined hands to battle Covid-19 in Bangladesh. They generously donated their honorariums to feed and support the ones in need, during these difficult times.

SAF has collaborated with JAAGO Foundation to reach out to 7,500 individuals to support them with food. They have also gifted a brand-new refrigerated van to carry bodies of Covid-19 victims to Quantum Foundation, who is working at the frontline with the deceased. In return for the guests' artistic contributions to each programme, SAF is donating funds to deliver food and other necessities to the people of Bangladesh, during this crisis, through JAAGO Foundation.
