PSA International Print Photography Exhibition concludes
PSA International Print Photography Exhibition 2019, which opened on August 23 at Gallery 2 of the National Art Gallery, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), concluded yesterday. Phoenix Photographic Society (PPS) and Photographic Society of America (PSA) jointly organised the exhibition, which was the first PSA International Print Photography Exhibition in Bangladesh.
US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Earl R Miller graced the inaugural event, held at the National Art Gallery Auditorium of BSA, as chief guest. Sayeeda Khanam, Ekushey Padak winner, the pioneer female photographer of Bangladesh and also the Adviser of PPS, and Agatha Anne Bunanta, Vice President, International Relations, PSA, attended the occasion as special guests. The chief guest and special guests visited the gallery and later commented and signed the book reserved for the visitors.
The president of PPS delivered the welcome address and thanked the guests and others for making the event a grand success. Agatha Anne Bunanta handed over the crest and certificate to PPS president. She delivered her speech on behalf of PSA, thanking PPS for organising the Dhaka chapter of the exhibition. She also presented gifts and mementos to the chief guest and PPS President.
The unique exhibition showcased 70 photographs by 70 photographers from across the world. The exhibition stood out regarding the aesthetic quality of the images, and their presentation of diverse subjects. The audience in attendance marveled at the sight of beautiful portraits, landscapes, nature, indigenous cultural elements and rituals, dance, wildlife, and fishing, amongst others at the gallery.
Bangladeshi photographer Noor Ahmed Gelal’s photograph, An Overcrowded Train Journey was a beautiful photograph, while Taiwanese photo artist Wang Lung Tsai’s work titled Fire Dragon, depicted a fantastic celebration of conventional festival. USA based photographer Kah-Wai Lin captured the dreamy beauty of aurora in Senja.
Jerry am Ende, another photographer from the USA, nicely captured a bird, which he titled Marilyn Monroe, as the bird’s pose resembled that of the famous American actor, model and singer. Renowned Bangladeshi photojournalist, Md Anisur Rahman’s image, In the Dry Fish Village, was also well appreciated.
The event was conducted by PPS President, Syed Sakhawat Kamal and PPS Publicity Secretary, Khaled Bin Salam.
