Internationally renowned Bangladeshi actor Jaya Ahsan was elated after winning the Best Actress (Critics) honour at the Joy Filmfare Awards (Bangla) last night for her roles in "Bijoya" and "Robibar" – which she said were as different from each other as the north and south poles.

Speaking to The Daily Star shortly after her win, she said, "Thank you so much. This is probably the first time that someone has received the critics' award for two roles. I would like to express my gratitude to the audience in Bangladesh -- they are always very supportive."

She was speaking to this newspaper over phone after the gala awards ceremony of the 4th Joy Filmfare Awards (Bangla) 2021 held at Westin, Kolkata.

"Journalist friends from Bangladesh and Kolkata were very supportive of me always. It is really a unique feeling -- such an honour to receive 'the black lady'," she said.

"I'm elated that I got the award for two movies. The two characters were tough. If one is the North Pole then the other is the South," Jaya added.

The other nominees in the category were: Ishaa Saha (Sweater), Raima Sen (Tarikh), Subhashree Ganguly (Parinita) and Sohini Sarkar (Vinci Da).

Jaya had previously won the Best Actress award in the 2018 iteration of the event, for her role in "Bishorjon".
