Pritom Hasan’s ‘Bhenge Porona Ebhabe’ is chillingly beautiful

I was expecting to do a run-of-the-mill news coverage about Pritom Hasan's Bhenge Porona Ebhabe, before I actually watched the music video on Gaanchill Music's YouTube channel. As soon as "inspired from a true story" flashed  on screen, I was hooked to the tinted color palate and the story beginning with Pritom's character holding his baby sister. As it unfolds, the honesty and endearingness crafted by directors A K Parag and Vasker Joni shone through, stamped by the lines that hit the hardest – Tumi Bhenge Porona Ebhabe, Shobai Thakena Chirodin Shathe (Don't break down like this, no one stays with you forever).

The script is inspired by Ananya Khan Shifa, a little angel that fought hard against B-cell Acute Lymphobastic Leukemia, but ultimately lost her battle. Her brother, portrayed in the music video by Pritom Hasan, went to great lengths to try and save her, but ultimately has to mourn her demise.

At a time when the pandemic has imposed harsh limitations on the extent to which a song and video can be produced, Fatman Films produced one that is breathtaking. The crucial moments – the excruciating remorse in Pritom's eyes as he puts on his bear costume, to the horrified expressions on even the extras on the little girl's sudden illness – are taken care of in a professional manner.

Besides being a phenomenal composer and singer, Pritom Hasan is a capable actor. Over the years, he has mastered the art of creating music that can be experienced not only through the ears, but through the eyes. Bhenge Porona Ebhabe, on the other hand, can be experienced with the heart.
