Keeping up with Ferdous

In his career spanning 21 years, Ferdous has contributed to the film industry, moving beyond just acting. Winning the National Film Award for the fifth time, Ferdous has definitely broken all barriers. He will be receiving the award in the category of Best Actor (Male) for the film Putro. In a candid chat with The Daily Star, Ferdous talks about his recent projects and more.

You have won the National Film award five times! Do you feel you have more responsibilities towards the industry now?

It is a great pleasure and honour to be recognised for the most prestigious award of the country. I definitely feel that my responsibilities towards the industry have increased, and that I should contribute more.

What is it like, now that you are also producing films?

I started producing films because I was concerned with the decreasing number of productions that were being made. Also, the movie theatres are closing down, which is alarming for the film industry.

My journey as a producer began with the film EK Cup Cha. I have also produced Postmaster 71. However, I am occupied with quite a few projects at the moment. After completing the shooting of the pending projects, I have plans to produce another venture next year.

‘Kathgoray Sarat Chandra’ is your next movie, where you will be seen as Devdas. Can we know more about the project?

I have said many times before -- I have had a weakness towards Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s iconic character, Devdas, ever since I was a child! I am excited about being associated with Arif Khan’s directorial project, Kathgoray Sarat Chandra. My dream of playing the role of Devdas has finally come true!
