Kamar Ahmad Simon to host WCF’s ‘Berlinale Spotlight’

Kamar Ahmad Simon will host the special online screening titled, 'Berlinale Spotlight: World Cinema Fund'. The special screening has been arranged by Goethe-Institut Bangladesh for the first time in four South Asian countries namely India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.

The Auteur will conduct the live Q&A session with Berlinale's Caligari Film Prize and Buenos Aires International Festival winner Tamer. "I agreed to the event after knowing of the scope to chat with contemporary art-house filmmakers around the world,' shared Kamar who has also received World Cinema Fund (WCF) from Berlinale for his upcoming film "Shikolbaha" (Iron Stream). The film is currently in the post-production phase.

Producer Sara Afreen, the curator of this event, has picked four films that have been awarded or positively received in various first category international film festivals from around 200 WCF awarded projects. "We have selected cinemas based on cinematic brilliance and people in different countries," she shared.

The selected productions will be streamed online four-month-long event under the initiative taken by WCF. The event is going to be inaugurated with the screening of Egyptian filmmaker Tamer El Said's "Akher Ayam El Madina" (In the Last Days of the City) on January 29 at 7:30 pm (BDT).
