IIUSFF closing ceremony held at DU

Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS), in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), successfully organised the 11th edition of International Inter University Short Film Festival (IIUSFF). DUFS, with the motto, “Better films, better viewers.”

The closing and award-giving ceremony of the event was held at DU on July 31. Carolina Lamarre, the development officer of UNHCR, graced the ceremony as the chief guest. “This event is a prestigious platform for young filmmakers to demonstrate their competence and develop their skills. Platforms like IIUSFF are incredibly important because of how efficiently they have shed light on the Rohingya crisis and the plight of the displaced across the world,” she said.

Abu Shahed Emon, film director, Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, DUFS moderator, Biplob Mostafiz and Rashedul Hafiz, film activists, and Nahid Masud, the younger brother of Tareque Masud and a noted sound designer, were present at the ceremony as well.

The Zahir Raihan Best Short 2019 was awarded to the film, Hearth, directed by Alisher Zhadigerov from Kazakhstan. The Tareque Masud Best Emerging Director 2019 was awarded to the film, Some Ancient Trees, directed by Hasnat Sohan from Bangladesh.

The Best Short Film on Refugees was awarded to the film, The Box, directed by Merve Cirisoglu Cotur from Turkey.

The Runner Up Short Film on Refugees was awarded to So Far from Kabul, directed by Joel Cartaxo Anjos from France. The Best One Minute Short was awarded to The Puppet, directed by Chethuwang Tripura from Bangladesh.
